Next book: Wicked Ruin

Review:

And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.

Wow. This one was something I did not expect. Eden has taken Lucifer’s hand and is now in hell. There she meets Niko. Niko is going to help her get through hell. Eden has much to face going up against the devil at his own game.

Beauty is a distraction-a diversion-from the ugliness pulsing within these walls.

I like that even though Eden goes through challenges she never gets rid of her sense of humor.

No offense to Ben- he’s nice. Which is exactly the problem. I don’t do nice. Or easy. Or comfortable. Probably explains my current predicament, but at least I’m consistent.

“Excuse me, but- Johnny baby, is it?-yeah, I know that steroids can shrink your balls, but I wasn’t aware that they actually turned people into dicks. Quick, Snookie Barbie! Stuff him in your mouth before the little fella gets away!”

At first I wasn’t sure I was going to make through some parts of the book. I actually got queasy but I understand what the author did. I mean it is the devil she is writing about so she had to go to an extreme.

While Eden gets preached to she knows how to keep it real. This is what I like about her. She doesn’t hid the ugly truth when it comes down to hit.

Crime in Chicago is out of control. And that’s not the work of seven rogue demons. Humans destroyed this city. Humans are fighting and killing and hurting each other every day all over the world. Maybe it’s time we take ownership of that.

L… What can I say about L but he is an alpha demon that I liked and trying not to love but It’s hard.

Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“My name is Legion,” he replied, “For we are many.”

He is power. He is pain. He. Is. Legion. And after centuries of slumber, the beast has just been awakened.

This man is ready to get his love back even if it means battling Lucifer. While a bigger opponent is revealed at the end that is more dangerous than Lucifer I can’t help but fall in love with L.

On to the next book. Wonder if it will be the final one or if there is more to this series.

Secrets that could cost me my life.
To stay alive I hat to look deep, beneath the masks everyone wears, to find the truth.
To find myself.

Review: “You’re scars do not define you, young lady. Your actions do.”

I really liked the Hashtag series that Hebert wrote, so I decided that I should try out another one of her books. Since it is around Halloween I saw this one tagged as supernatural. I thought ‘Why not?’ and got it.

Heven was attacked one night while coming home from the library. She doesn’t remember anything about the attack. She has scars on the left side of her face. The girl she once was, confident and wears the stylish clothes is gone. A girl who wears baggy clothes and want to become invisible has taken her place. She doesn’t feel safe, even in her own house. Until Sam comes along.

This story has something I’m not a big fan of in it. The trope of girl meets boy. Boy seems to fix all problems. Granted that her anxiety doesn’t just go away, it’s still there but she feels safe around Sam even though she barely knows him.

The story has four P.O.V.s, Heven, Sam, the Hate, and the Hope. It is mostly Heven’s P.O.V. As a female lead I don’t like Heven. She just turned me away with how bad she thinks of everybody. Not in a mean way. She just thinks everyone can only see her scars and that she is ugly and disfigured. Most of her friends just gave her her space and left her alone till she came back around.

I did like the supernatural, paranormal element going on. I loved how Hebert kept me guessing. When Sam reveals his secret I didn’t expect for him to be what he is. I was thinking he’s a demon or a werewolf but turns out he’s different from that. Close but different.

Kimber, Heven’s best friend wasn’t my favorite either. After Rimmel and Ivy, these two girls didn’t quite live up. I wasn’t a big fan of Kimber’s jealousy of Heven. Not because it wasn’t realistic because face it we all envy or are jealous of one friend even for a tiny reason. It was just the way Kimber was written that I didn’t like. I really don’t know how to explain it.

The end did have me curious to know more but not in the needing the second book right now. Even though this did have an insta love I was happy that there wasn’t any sex. I am glad that it is a relationship that is growing and it is the guy who wants to wait till the time is perfect.

Starting the next book. Here I go.

Besides, what a shame it would be to taint such beauty with such a beast.

A Demon in Waiting by Holley Trent

My Edition: Kindle Unlimited
Pages:196
Series: Sons of Gulielmus #1
Rating: 3 stars
Synopsis:

After twenty-eight years, skeptic John Tate is cast out of his cult. As he has neither money nor education, he’s completely without prospects. That is, until Gulielmus, his long-silent demon daddy, swoops in with a job offer this half incubus can’t refuse: seducing women for Team Hell. Sounds like a great gig for a virgin.

Ariel Thomas knows smart women don’t stop for hitchhikers, but the one she spots on the Arizona roadside lures her like an irresistible mirage. For once in her well-regimented life she decides to do something out of character, and offers the gorgeous hobo a ride. She’s got a long drive ahead to North Carolina, and what better way to stay awake behind the wheel than to have eye candy to ogle?

John’s unsophisticated charm makes Ariel swoon, and he’s enthralled by her worldliness. The two fall hard and fast, but Gulielmus wants to put the skids on their cross-country love affair. John may be hiding his true nature, but Ariel has some secrets in her family tree Team Hell won’t forgive.

Demon spawn aren’t supposed to fall in love with their prey, and John is forced to make the age-old choice: good versus evil. Who’d be easier to run from- his powerful demon father or the woman who actually thinks he’s worth loving?

***Warning Spoilers***

Review: Raise your hand if you love virgin heroes.

John “Hitch” is half incubus. His father comes and recruits him for Team Hell. John now has to seduce women for Team Hell. The first woman he tries his powers on is Ariel. Ariel is driving from California to North Carolina to move back home.

There were bits I thought were pretty funny. Example: When Ariel asks how many siblings Hitch has, he says it’s hard to explain. What’s hard to explain, father is an incubus (male demon who has sexual intercourse with sleeping women, aka man-whore demon) and mother is a sister-wife in a religious cult, nah not to hard.

Hitch was totally adorable. A big old cuddly demon. (Never thought you would see those words together did ya?) With his twenty eight years of living secluded in a cult he doesn’t have much experience with the outside world. Ariel captivates him from the moment she pulled over her car for him.

I really don’t know what I thought of Ariel. She’s kind of blah. The story was good. But I do wish there was more explaining with the demons and angels. Ariel’s reaction to finding out about Hitch and about having angels guarding her was just ‘okay’. She really didn’t freak out like I would have.

My main complaint again would be not enough detailing. Like what really happened with her mom and dad that made them go on the run. What is her family history that was mentioned in the blurb.

At the end we are led up into the next book which would be of Hitch’s older brother Trucker whose real name is Charles.
