Monthly Recap

February 2023: Read

February has been a pretty good month for reading. Though it didn’t start off great. I had my first five-star of the year.

Books read:

  1. The Days of Elijah by John Noble (2/5 star)
  2. Vanished by Irene Hannon (3/5 star)
  3. The Queen Trials by Penelope Wright (DNF)
  4. Rooted in Wonder by Eryn Lynum (4/5 star)
  5. Anatomy: A Love Story by Dana Schwartz (Putting back for October)
  6. In the Field of Grace by Tessa Afshar (5/5 star)
  7. The Selection by Kiera Cass (2.5/5 star)
  8. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard (Putting back until physical copy)
  9. Gods & Kings by Lynn Austin (4/5 star)
  10. The Nerd & the Quarterback by M.L. Collins (3/5 star)
  11. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (5/5 star)

Favorites of the month:

I loved Rooted in Wonder. My all-time favorite would have to be In the Fields of Grace. That made an already powerful story even more powerful.

Disappointments:

The Days of Elijah sounded amazing, but the writing was too modern so it took me out of Ancient Israel set. The Queen Trials was a disappointment because it had potential but there were too many elements that I did not like in the plot. Plus taking the Lord’s name in vain.
The Selection was a hyped book that I felt didn’t really deserve all the hate but didn’t deserve all the love either. It wasn’t completely amazing. I would have liked the book if it wasn’t for Aspen.

Book Types:

KU: 4
Library: 3
Kindle: 1
Physical Owned: 1
ARCs: 1
Audio: 1

Monthly Recap

January 2023: Read

January actually started off pretty well. I read more books than I thought I would. Let’s get into this.

Books Read:

The Ugly Stepsister Strikes Back by Sariah Wilson (2/5 star)

My first book of the year was a low rating. I wasn’t a fan of the two MCs. I didn’t root for them and I just didn’t like the plot.

The Way of the Brave by Susan May Warren (3/5 star)

This is the lowest rating I have of Warren. I love her books and her series. When I am in the mood for a romance I turn to Warren. This one wasn’t high for me, but like I said in my review I think it is due to the fact that I have absolutely no knowledge of mountain climbing.

Wild Montana Skies by Susan May Warren (4/5 star)

I loved the MCs. The heroine was my all-time fave female character from Warren.

Cross Academy by Valicity Elaine (DNF)

This book had so much potential but it seemed all over the place with too many subplots. I may try it again in the future but for right now I am putting it in DNF.

Take a Chance on Me by Susan May Warren (4/5 star)

A good start to a series. I loved the MCs and can’t wait to see where the family ends up.

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis (2/5 star)

There are way too many problems with this “self-help” book.

Nothing But Trouble by Susan May Warren (3/5 star)

Wasn’t the biggest fan of this series but I liked it enough to continue it.

Double Trouble by Susan May Warren (2.5/5 star)

I didn’t like this as much as the first book. The author went a certain way that I didn’t quite like. I am holding off on the third one. I think I will finish it next month.

Monthly Recap

November 2022

Monthly review

November was slow for me with reading. I wasn’t much in a reading mood.

Books Read:

Letters From Rifka by Karen Hesse
The Homesteader’s Sweetheart by Lacy Williams
Peter Pan by JM Barrie
Never Hae I Ever Kissed My Brother’s Best Friend by Juliet Bardsley
Faceless by Rob Ashman
Not with the Band by Kelli Warner
Feathers of Snow by Alice Ivinya
Unlocked by Casey L Bond

Books DNF

Feathers of Blood by Alice Ivinya
Rise of the Ram’s by Christopher Artinian

Challenges:

TBR Dwindle and Holiday challenges are still going. I do plan on doing another quarter challenge for Jan.-Mar. and I might also do a monthly challenge for January. But my TBR is dwindling. It started with 541 and I am now down to 451. Unfortunately, December has started off with many DNFs. I went in and cleaned out some books off the TBR. I was tired of DNF after DNF. So I cleared the ones I thought I wouldn’t like and now I am going to continue on. Hopefully, I don’t have any more DNFs but we will see.

I want to wish everyone a

Happy Hannakuk!
Merry Christmas!
Happy Kwanza!

Monthly Recap

Monthly Best Read: October 2022

I know I am late with this and I completely missed September. I’m trying to get better at this. Better late than never. I read a lot in October. So bare with me.

Books Read:

What Are Friends For by Sarah Sutton
Fight Like a Tomboy by Stephanie Street
Rumor Has It by RH Tucker
How To Kiss a Guy in 10 Days
Beyond the Tower by JacQueline Vaughn Roe
Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young
The Lochlann Treaty series by Robin D Mahle
Homecoming by Carolyne Aarsen
Something New by Amanda Abram
Hearing God Every Day by Doug Addison
Rock Valley High books 2 & 3 by Lacy Andersen
Where to Find it In the Bible by Ken Anderson
Five Kisses by Rachel Anderson
One Perfect Day by Jennifer Youngblood
I Hate You, Fuller James by Kelly Anne Blount
Shadow Fall by Audrey Grey

Books DNF

Her Bodyguard Swap by Laura Ann
My Heart to Touch by SB Alexander
Shadow Rise by Audrey Grey

Books that stuck out

The Lochlann Treaty series and Sky In the Deep are the books in the fiction that stood out to me. The Lochlann Treaty series started out iffy for me but got better as the series continued. Sky In The Deep was amazing from start to finish.

With non-fiction Hearing God Every Day helped answer some questions that I had that I didn’t really know I had.

Books that disappointed

Most of the books I read in October fell flat. Sadly I didn’t remember most of them. Shadow Fall was really sad for me. I’ve read Grey before and I absolutely loved it so this was a big surprise to me.

Challenges

I have going right now a year-long challenge TBR Dwindle. The quarter challenge is the Holiday Challenge. I do plan on making a monthly challenge for December.

I hope you are having a great November.

Look Forward, Monthly Recap

Month at a Glance: August 2022

I haven’t written one of these in a long time. August was quite a busy month for me and I, unfortunately, didn’t get much reading done. Plus there was one week I got sick and didn’t have any motivation to read. But here is a glance at August 2022.

Books Read:

Ice Crown by Kay L. Moody- 2 stars
The Palace of Lost Memories by C.J. Archer- 3.5 stars
The Miracle of the Scarlet Thread by Richard Booker- 4 stars
Knox by Susan May Warren- 4 stars

Books DNF:

Dwindle by K.A. Gandy
Rafe by Kathy Ivan

Books that stuck out:

A funny story about the two books I am about to mention is due to the heroes of the stories. Even funnier the books are named after the hero.

Knox because the hero Knox knew boundaries and respected the heroine and understood why she was the way she was.

Now with Rafe, it has more to do with the author not properly educating herself on law enforcement. It wasn’t even anything that couldn’t be researched either. I don’t think I have had a book that made me rage like that in a while.

Books I look forward to:

Some upcoming books I plan on getting in next month are:

Rise by J.M. Kearl
The Designate by J.B. Cantwell
Between Ink and Shadows by Melissa Wright
Nobody Left Out by Michael Murray
He Healed Them All by Barry Bennett

Challenges:

Disney Challenge will be finished at the end of next month. I plan on doing a Fall challenge that will go through October and November. Then of course a Christmas challenge to end the year.

Hope yall have a blessed September.

Monthly Recap

Monthly Best Read- February 2017

I already know the winner of this month. I didn’t have a great month of February. I started the month out fine then all of the sudden, I was in a sort of book slump and I really didn’t get out of it till the end o the month. So with that I give you the winner of February 2017…

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick

I have been trying to figure out for most of the day yesterday and today on what the best read in February was. The only book that really stood out in my mind was Black Ice. Out of my other books I couldn’t remember other than the three DNFs that had happened this past month. So thus is one of the reasons why Black Ice wins. It is also the highest rating book that I have read in February.

Monthly Recap

Monthly Best Read: January 2017

Well it is the first on February. Hope everyone’s new year is going good. It seems to be that time of month again. To chose the best read of January, the first of 2017. I mostly read a bunch of Mariana Zapata this month so many of my runners will be her’s. I do love her writing.

Choices:

  • Kulti
  • Under Locke
  • Lingus
  • Blackwood

Winner Lingus by Mariana Zapata

I don’t think I have ever smiled so much while reading a book. It happens to be the only book this month to get my first 5 stars this year. I love both characters. This is also the only book that has come close to beating The Wall of Winnipeg and Me in my favorites.

  Runner ups:

  • Blackwood by Celia Aaron
  • Kulti by Mariana Zapata
  • Under Locke by Mariana Zapata

Looking forward to February. I have a challenge that I am doing called All the Books. It will be showcased at the top of my home page if you want to follow my progress throughout the month. I have so far I think 7 books planned for the challenge.

Have a fantastic February.

Monthly Recap

Monthly Best Read: October 2016

Well this is kind of hard for me. I have absolutely no five star books in the month of October. I have mostly three stars and two four stars. Nothing really comes out and grabs my attention. So I am just going to pick the one that when I think back I can remember most of the story.

The Queen of All That Lives by Laura Thalassa

I’m not a huge fan of dystopian novels but I did like this series. I would recommend it and I did enjoy it. I didn’t like it as much as Thalassa’s other series that I read but it was good enough.

Runner ups

No runner ups this month.

Monthly Recap

Monthly Best Read: September 2016

List

  1. #Junkie by Cambria Hebert
  2. A Lover’s Lament by K.L. Grayson and BT Urruela
  3. Soulless by TM Frazier
  4. #Rev by Cambria Hebert
  5. #Bae by Cambria Hebert.
  6. The Queen of All that Dies by Laura Thalassa

This month is a little hard to chose from. I have read so many good books this past month. Three of them really stand out in my mind. They were so good and I may just do a three way tie. But I think I have a winner.

#Junkie

#Junkie is my winner. I ate up this book like nothing. I want more of Trent and Drew. I hope the author in the future writes more books on them. I know #Bae was the end of Romeo and Rimmel but I am not ready for the end of Trent and Drew. I’m not. I don’t want #Rev to be their last book. But I have a feeling it is.

Runner ups

  1. #Bae
  2. Soulless
  3. #Rev
  4. The Queen of all that Dies
  5. A lover’s Lament
