The Cost of Treachery by Nicole Zoltack

My edition: Kindle Unlimited
Series: Darkened Nights: History book 6
Genre: Fairy tale retelling, YA
Rating: 3 stars

Synopsis:

To show his gratitude for a poor couple saving his life, a king offers his daughter to their son. Alas, this son is not nearly as good and compassionate as his parents. The king has no choice but to try to save his kingdom… and turns to the ogres for aid in this twisted retelling of The Devil with the Three Golden Hairs.

Review:

In the blurb it says this is a retelling of the Devil and the Three Golden Hairs. I have never read the story so I can’t compare the two.

The story starts several centuries before the last one left off. The king is saved from near death by a couple. The king offers them any wish they want to be granted. The couple offer up their son to be married.

The king accepts, only to come to realize his new soon to be son in law is treacherous. He ends up going to the giants for help who then test the newly prince.

This was a fast story. I didn’t hate it but didn’t really like it either.
